Wedding photographer & videographer in Calgary
Sunrise in Calgary in July is 05:39 and sunset is 21:441, so the light over the Bow River islands and the skyline carries a wedding well past dinner. We photograph and film weddings here as one team, from park ceremonies to late portraits.

How we shoot Calgary

We cover full-day weddings along the Bow River, park ceremonies, small weddings and two-day weekends when guests fly in from elsewhere in Canada or abroad.
Collections
Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Calgary is built into the quote, not added later.
Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Calgary rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

The day
The day,as we shoot it in Calgary

A July wedding here has more daylight than a schedule can use. The sun is up from 05:39 until 21:441, and the average high at Calgary International Airport is 23.5 °C (74.3 °F), with a low of 10.2 °C (50.4 °F)2. We anchor the day to the evening, not the noon sun.
- Getting ready, with the details and the film's opening frames.
- Ceremony in a park booked through the City's Parks & Open Spaces permit, which takes about 30 days to process3. The officiant wears a lavalier microphone, so the vows reach the film.
- Family groups, kept short, while guests move on to the meal.
- A walk across the Peace Bridge, Santiago Calatrava's span over the Bow River4, for the two of you.
- Dinner. We step back and film the toasts, with a recorder on the table for the speeches.
- Portraits on St. Patrick's Island Park, at the meeting of the Bow and Elbow rivers5.
- The last frames before sunset1, once the reception has found its feet.
July is the wettest month in our climate table, averaging 65.7 mm2, so every outdoor ceremony gets a covered fallback and a plan for umbrellas in the portraits. The open question is how late the evening should run, and that depends on your guests. If the two of you would like a quiet start before the day begins, the sun rises at 05:391, though for a full wedding we rarely suggest it.
| Month | Sunrise | Sunset |

| Apr | 06:41 | 20:32 |

Sunrise and sunset computed for the 15th of each month, local time.1

Where we shoot in Calgary
Most of our Calgary backdrops sit along the two rivers. A few need a City photography permit, and we flag those before they reach your shot list.
- Prince's Island Park an urban park on an island in the Bow River, immediately north of downtown.6
- Peace Bridge a walking and cycling bridge over the Bow by Santiago Calatrava, opened March 24, 2012.4
- St. Patrick's Island Park a 31-acre island park at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers.5
- Central Memorial Park a Beltline park whose library and grounds were named a National Historic Site in 2018.7
- Stephen Avenue the pedestrian mall on 8 Avenue SW between 4 Street SW and 1 Street SE.8
- Reader Rock Garden one of two City sites, with Devonian Gardens, where photography needs a City permit.3
- Inglewood Bird Sanctuary a nature reserve on the Bow River that includes the historic Colonel James Walker house.9
- Nose Hill Park a natural park of over 11 km² in northwest Calgary, created in 1980.10
Casual photos need no permit at most City parks, and commercial photography goes through the City's Film Friendly team.3

How we match you with your photographer
Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you enquire about Calgary, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.
Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.
How booking works
- Send the form with your date and location.
- We reply within one business day with the Calgary price list and the partner's recent work.
- Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
- A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
- The day.
- A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.
Good to know in Calgary
Alberta licences are issued by registry agent offices. The Government of Alberta fee is $40 CAD plus a service fee that varies by agent11. There is no waiting period, so the ceremony can take place the day the licence is issued, and it stays valid for 3 months in Alberta only11. You need 2 witnesses, each 18 or older, who stand with you in front of the officiant; proxy and teleconference marriage are not allowed12.
A City of Calgary park wedding permit costs $66.24 CAD per day with GST3, plus a $26.25 CAD administration fee and a $5.75 CAD risk management fee3. Renters carry $2,000,000 CAD in general liability insurance naming the City3. The Inglewood Bird Sanctuary charges $58.49 CAD per hour for photography, for groups of up to 3013. Drones of 250 g or more need a separate Greenspace Application that can take 8 weeks or more14.

Questions couples ask
01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Calgary?
02Do you travel to Calgary, and is travel included?
Yes. Travel to Calgary is built into the quote rather than added later, so the price list shows what you pay. We introduce you to an independent partner photographer matched to Calgary and share their recent galleries and films before your first call.
03Can we book photo and video together?
04How many photos do we receive, and when?
The number depends on the collection and the length of the day. Your partner puts it, and the delivery dates, in your contract. You get a sneak peek first, then the full edited gallery and the film. Ask for the count on the introduction call and make sure it is written down.
05What happens if it rains on our wedding day?
July averages 65.7 mm of rain, the highest of the four months in the weather table2, so we treat showers as part of the plan. We agree a covered fallback for the ceremony, bring umbrellas for portraits, and keep the schedule loose enough to wait out a passing storm.
Say when.
Tell us the date, or the season you are leaning toward, and which part of the river or the city you picture. We reply within one business day with the Calgary price list and a partner's recent galleries.
