How we shoot Indianapolis

The Indianapolis days we cover are small ceremonies with portraits, full weddings, and two-day weekends with a rehearsal dinner, in photo, video or both.
Collections
Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Indianapolis is built into the quote, not added later.
Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Indianapolis rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

The day
The day,as we shoot it in Indianapolis

October in Indianapolis runs from a 07:54 sunrise to a 19:05 sunset on the 15th1, with an average high of 65.6°F and a low of 45.5°F3. A sample day built on that light:
- Sunrise1. A late sunrise leaves the early morning for getting ready, details and a first look.
- Morning Family portraits on Monument Circle, around the 284-foot Soldiers and Sailors Monument, dedicated in 19024.
- Afternoon The ceremony, photographed and filmed by the same crew, with the film's sound recorded on a microphone worn by the officiant. Filming in a city park is charged separately by Indy Parks, as covered under Good to know.
- Evening The two of you along the Indiana Central Canal, a downtown stretch of a canal whose construction stopped in 18395.
- Sunset1. Closing portraits near the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza6, then the reception.
Any shoot in an Indy Parks site needs an advance vendor permit for professional photography7, so the stops above are confirmed before the date. October averages 3.22 inches of precipitation3; the ceremony has an agreed covered or indoor fallback. In January the sun sets at 17:441 and the average high is 36.1°F3, so a winter wedding keeps its portraits short and close to the venue.

How we match you with your photographer
Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you inquire about Indianapolis, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.
Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.
How booking works
- Send the form with your date and location.
- We reply within one business day with the Indianapolis price list and the partner's recent work.
- Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
- A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
- The day.
- A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.
Good to know in Indianapolis
Marriage licenses come from the Marion County Clerk's Office, Marriage License Division, in the City-County Building at 200 E. Washington St.2. The fee is $25 for Indiana residents and $65 for out-of-state residents, the license is valid for 60 days2, and there is no waiting period: couples may marry as early as the day it is issued13. Complete the online application first, then the in-person visit; it is walk-in only, with no appointment, and both of you bring unexpired identification and proof of residency2.
In Indy Parks, professional photography needs an advance vendor permit at $30 per day7. Filming is charged separately, at $200 for a half day or $400 for a full day7. A permit doesn't cover photographing other park visitors without their permission and a signed release, and Garfield Park Conservatory and Sunken Garden are arranged directly with the conservatory7. Organized events generally need a Special Event Permit, applied for at least 45 days ahead7.
On weather, July is the warm month: an average high of 85.2°F3.

Questions couples ask
01Do you travel to Indianapolis, and is travel included?
Indianapolis is one of our listed locations and travel is built into the quote, not added later. If you live out of state, the license is the other half of the trip: out-of-state couples marrying in Marion County apply at the Marion County Clerk's Office2, and the fee for out-of-state residents is $652.
02Can we book photo and video together in Indianapolis?
Yes. A collection can be photo, video or both, shot by one team on the day. Filming in an Indy Parks site is charged separately by the parks department7, so tell us on the form which parks you have in mind and your partner confirms the filming permit before the date.
03How many photos do we receive, and when?
The count depends on how long we cover and how the day moves; your partner states it in the contract, and we don't print one figure for every Indianapolis wedding. The sequence is fixed: a sneak peek within days, then the full gallery and the film on the dates in your contract.
04What happens if it rains on our wedding day?
We plan for it. June averages 4.95 inches of precipitation and October 3.22 inches3, so the ceremony has an agreed covered or indoor alternative, and park portraits move to dry stops. Your partner talks you through what shifts, and checks it against any park permit before the day.
05Can we get the raw files?
Raw files aren't part of a collection, which includes the edited gallery. Whether your photographer releases unedited files, and on what terms, is a contract question, so ask on the first call, before the deposit holds the date, and get the answer in writing.
Say when.
Send a date, or just a month, and the Indianapolis price list reaches you within one business day with a partner's recent work. Mention on the form if a city park is in your plans; the permit affects the schedule.
