Collections

Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Winnipeg is built into the quote, not added later.

Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Winnipeg rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

The day

Wedding detail

We plan a January wedding around a short day. The sun rises at 08:20 and sets at 16:556, and the average high at Richardson International Airport is −11.4 °C (11.5 °F), with an average low of −21.2 °C (−6.2 °F)4. Every hour outside is chosen.

  1. Getting ready in the brightest, warmest room you have, which is also where the film opens: rings on the sill, the letter, the coat you will wear later.
  2. The ceremony indoors, so the vows and the officiant's lavalier microphone sit in a quiet room.
  3. Family groups by a window while the sun is still up.
  4. Portraits in the Exchange District, about 150 heritage buildings across twenty blocks7, in short rounds with a warm door close by.
  5. Sunset6. We keep shooting through the dusk that follows, when the city lights come on.

Cold is a camera problem as well as a comfort one: batteries drain faster, so we carry spares and keep them warm against the body. Lips and fingers go first on people, so outdoor frames come in rounds, not one long session. If you would rather skip the cold, the whole plan moves indoors and the portraits are made against the building's own light. In July the picture reverses: 76.6 mm of rain makes it the wettest of the four months in the weather table4, and a City park booking includes set-up and take-down in its two hours2.

Where we shoot in Winnipeg

Winnipeg is built on two rivers, and most of our backdrops sit on them or beside them. The City books several of the parks by the two-hour block2, and we fit the portrait list to the slot you hold.

  • The Forks the historic site and green space at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers.8
  • Esplanade Riel a pedestrian bridge named in honour of Louis Riel.9
  • Exchange District a National Historic Site just north of Portage and Main, with about 150 heritage buildings.7
  • Manitoba Legislative Building the seat of the Legislative Assembly and Manitoba's twelfth provincial heritage site.10
  • Leo Mol Sculpture Garden photo sessions use a designated section with the pond, pergola and schoolhouse.3
  • Assiniboine Forest a regional park in Charleswood of over 285 hectares, described as Canada's largest urban forest.11
  • St. Vital Park a 100-acre (40 ha) park on a bend of the Red River, the city's third largest.12
  • King's Park a 92-acre (37.4 ha) Fort Richmond park with Chinese pagoda gardens at its centre.13 Bookings run 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with floral locations only from June through September.14

How we match you with your photographer

Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you enquire about Winnipeg, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.

Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.

How booking works

  1. Send the form with your date and location.
  2. We reply within one business day with the Winnipeg price list and the partner's recent work.
  3. Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
  4. A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
  5. The day.
  6. A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.

Questions couples ask

01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Winnipeg?

As soon as you have a date, since a deposit is what holds it. Park ceremonies add lead time: the City accepts a permit request first and takes payment afterwards2, and amplified music needs a police noise permit applied for at least 4 weeks ahead15. The licence itself only needs to be bought 24 hours before1.

02Do you travel to Winnipeg, and is travel included?

Yes. Travel to Winnipeg is built into the quote rather than added later, so the price list is the figure you plan with. We introduce you to an independent partner photographer matched to Winnipeg and share their recent galleries and films first, so the call is about your day, not their résumé.

03Can we book photo and video together?

Yes. One crew covers both, which keeps the day calm: one set of people in the room, one plan for the ceremony. Sound comes from a lavalier microphone on the officiant and a recorder alongside, so the vows are heard clearly in the film. Choose Photo, Film or Photo + Video when you enquire.

04How many photos do we receive, and when?

The count depends on the collection and how long the day runs, and your partner writes it into the contract with the delivery dates. A sneak peek arrives first, then the full edited gallery and the film. Ask for the number and the dates on your call so both are in writing before you pay a deposit.

05What happens if it rains, or snows, on our wedding day?

We plan for it. July is the wettest of January, April, July and October, at 76.6 mm on average4, and January averages −11.4 °C (11.5 °F) by day4. A City park booking is a two-hour block including set-up and take-down2, so we agree an indoor fallback and a shorter outdoor list before the day.

06Can we get the raw files?

Unedited frames are not part of the collections as we describe them: the Photo collection is the edited gallery with print rights. If you want raw files, ask your photographer on the introduction call and have the answer written into the contract before the deposit holds your date.

Say when.

Give us the date, even a rough season, and the kind of place you picture, whether a riverbank, a garden or a brick street. We reply within one business day with the Winnipeg price list and a partner's recent galleries.
