Good to know in Sioux Falls
Marriage licenses come from the Minnehaha County Register of Deeds1. The fee is $40, cash only; cards and checks are not accepted. There is no waiting period, the license is valid for 90 days, and it can be used in any South Dakota county but not outside the state1. Both of you appear in person with identification and proof of age, and the office asks for Social Security numbers; arrive by 4:45 pm1. The ceremony needs two witnesses, whose names and places of residence the officiant records beforehand3.
The city reserves four park sites for wedding ceremonies in four-hour blocks. The fees are nonrefundable: McKennan Park Sunken Garden, Sherman Park Arbor and Garden, and Terrace Park and Japanese Garden are $75 each, and Tuthill House and Garden is $1752. McKennan and Sherman Park bookings must be made at least 5 business days and no more than 120 days ahead2.
