Wedding photographer & videographer in Saskatoon

In Saskatchewan a marriage licence takes effect the day after you buy it, so the licence goes first in the planning1. We photograph and film weddings in Saskatoon as one team, along the South Saskatchewan River and in the long prairie light.

Wedding detail

We cover riverbank ceremonies, garden weddings, small ceremonies and two-day weekends in Saskatoon, for couples who live here and for those who come home to marry.

Collections

Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Saskatoon is built into the quote, not added later.

Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Saskatoon rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

Good to know in Saskatoon

The Government of Saskatchewan Marriage Unit sets the rules and licence issuers sell the licence. It costs $60 CAD, takes effect the day after purchase and is valid for 90 days1. Bring two pieces of government-issued ID, one with a photo; you both sign a statutory declaration in front of the issuer, and no blood tests are needed1. Clergy or marriage commissioners registered in Saskatchewan perform the ceremony1.

The City's Wedding Garden at Forestry Farm Park costs $450 CAD for 1.5 hours2. It sets up to 100 chairs around a centre aisle, and extra chairs are $2 CAD each plus GST2. Drones are a separate question: Bylaw 5729 bars them over City-owned property except as permitted3.

January is the cold end of the year, with an average high of −9.5 °C (14.9 °F) and an average low of −19.0 °C (−2.2 °F)4.

Wedding detail

We plan a July wedding around a very long evening, with the film and the photographs sharing one running order. The sun rises at 05:04 and sets at 21:206, and the average high at the University of Saskatchewan station is 25.3 °C (77.5 °F), with a low of 12.6 °C (54.7 °F)4.

  1. Getting ready, and the first frames of the film: the dress, the jacket, the letter on the table.
  2. The ceremony in the Wedding Garden at Forestry Farm Park, a garden facing an archway, booked for 1.5 hours2. The officiant wears a lavalier microphone.
  3. Family groups in the same garden, then a break for the meal.
  4. Portraits along the Meewasin Valley trail, the conservation zone that follows the river through the city7.
  5. The Broadway Bridge, an arch bridge over the South Saskatchewan River8, with the light low and from the side.
  6. Sunset6, and the film's closing frames.

July is the wettest of the four months in the weather table, at 60.1 mm4, so the garden ceremony carries a backup under a roof. Drones are a separate matter in Saskatoon: Bylaw 5729 bars flying over City property except as permitted3, so aerial shots are planned only with a permit in hand. The evening is the real variable here, since the light stays up until 21:206 and guests tire before the sky does.

Where we shoot in Saskatoon

The river is the spine of the city, and most of what we photograph sits on its banks. These eight are the backdrops we start from, and the garden at Forestry Farm Park is the one the City books by the slot.

  • Kiwanis Memorial Park a park next to the South Saskatchewan River.9
  • Victoria Park an urban park beside the same river.10
  • Broadway Bridge an arch bridge spanning the South Saskatchewan River.8
  • Traffic Bridge a name shared by two truss bridges between Victoria Avenue and Spadina Crescent; the first opened October 10, 1907.11
  • River Landing a redevelopment district along the downtown bank of the river.12
  • Meewasin Valley a conservation zone that runs 60 km (37 mi) along the river valley through the city.7
  • Forestry Farm Park a National Historic Site; the former nursery shipped 147 million trees across the prairies between 1913 and 1966.13
  • Nutana and Broadway Avenue the neighbourhood first established in 1883 as the original settlement of Saskatoon, with the Broadway Avenue business district.14

Riverbank parks are shared spaces, so we plan the walk and the timing around other visitors and keep the portrait list short enough to finish in good light.

How we match you with your photographer

Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you enquire about Saskatoon, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.

Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.

How booking works

  1. Send the form with your date and location.
  2. We reply within one business day with the Saskatoon price list and the partner's recent work.
  3. Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
  4. A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
  5. The day.
  6. A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.

Questions couples ask

01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Saskatoon?

As soon as you have a date. The Wedding Garden is booked through the City in 1.5-hour blocks2, so we choose a ceremony time that suits the photographer's schedule and the light. The licence is the one step with a fixed wait: it takes effect the day after you buy it1.

02Do you travel to Saskatoon, and is travel included?

Yes. Travel to Saskatoon is built into the quote and not added afterwards. We introduce you to an independent partner photographer matched to Saskatoon, share their recent galleries and films, and set up a call so you can ask how they handle a prairie evening that runs late.

03Can we book photo and video together?

Yes, as one crew. For aerial footage, City of Saskatoon property is covered by Bylaw 5729, which allows drone flights only under an annual Commercial permit or a one-time Limited permit for a specific flight plan3. Without one, the film is shot from the ground.

04How many photos do we receive, and when?

The count depends on the collection and how long the day runs. Your partner puts it, with the delivery dates, in your contract. The sneak peek arrives first, then the full edited gallery and the film. Ask for the number on the introduction call and have it in writing.

05What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

July averages 60.1 mm of rain, more than any other month in the weather table4. For a Wedding Garden ceremony we agree a covered backup with you in advance, and portraits move to sheltered spots or indoors. The garden booking is a fixed 1.5 hours2, so we plan the weather around the slot, not the other way round.

Say when.

Tell us the date, or the month you are weighing, and whether you picture a riverbank, a garden or a bridge at dusk. We reply within one business day with the Saskatoon price list and a partner's recent galleries.
