Wedding photographer & videographer in Moab

Delicate Arch stands 52 ft (16 m) tall and is the image on Utah's license plates1. It is not on Arches' list of identified ceremony sites2, so the first thing we do with that picture is find you a frame inside the park that the permit does allow.

In short

We photograph and film weddings in and around Moab as one team, planned around the park permits that decide where you may stand. We cover elopements at first light, small ceremonies on canyon rims, full-day weddings and two-day weekends for guests who travel in from out of state.

Collections

Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Moab is built into the quote, not added later.

Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Moab rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

Where we shoot in Moab

Our backdrops sit inside Arches, Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point State Park, so each one arrives with a permit and a headcount. We build the portrait list around those numbers and tell you which ones your guest list fits.

  • Delicate Arch a 52 ft (16 m) freestanding arch and the park's best-known landmark.1 A ceremony permit lets the party take photos anywhere in the park.2
  • Double Arch an Arches ceremony site the park identifies for groups of up to 25.2
  • Panorama Point an overlook where Arches takes groups of up to 50.2
  • Balanced Rock a 128 ft formation beside the main park road, about 9.2 miles (14.8 km) from the Arches entrance.3
  • Grand View Point an Island in the Sky ceremony site in Canyonlands for up to 25.4
  • Dead Horse Point State Park a state park overlook of the Colorado River at 5,900 ft (1,800 m), opened in 1959.5

None of these is a venue we book for you. We choose among them with you once the permit dates are clear, and we keep a second option ready for each date.

Wedding detail

We plan an April wedding around a one-hour permit. In April the sun rises at 06:42 and sets at 19:546, and the average high is 72.4 °F against an average low of 42.6 °F7, so the morning calls for jackets and the afternoon does not.

  1. Getting ready where you are staying, with the details and the letters.
  2. A first look at Balanced Rock, beside the main park road3.
  3. The ceremony at Double Arch. Arches writes permits for one hour, and they are not exclusive2, so the party arrives together and begins on time. The officiant wears a small lavalier microphone for the film.
  4. Family groups at the same site. Arches allows no caterers and no PA system2, so lunch happens in town.
  5. On to Canyonlands, under its own permit, for portraits at Grand View Point; the park uses the same permit model as Arches4.
  6. The last hour of light there, ahead of the 19:54 sunset6.

Rain is rare in April, with an average of 0.77 in7, so the variable is temperature. In July the average high reaches 99.2 °F7, which is when we move ceremonies to the first and last hours of the day. Dead Horse Point asks hired photographers to hold their own Special Use Permit8, so we add it to a plan only once that permit is in hand.

How we match you with your photographer

Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you inquire about Moab, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.

Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.

How booking works

  1. Send the form with your date and location.
  2. We reply within one business day with the Moab price list and the partner's recent work.
  3. Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
  4. A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
  5. The day.
  6. A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.

Questions couples ask

01What is so special about Moab, Utah?

For a wedding, the draw is that Arches2, Canyonlands4 and Dead Horse Point State Park12 all sit around Moab, each with a written ceremony process. Delicate Arch alone is a 52 ft (16 m) freestanding arch1. We shoot the sandstone, the rims and the river, and plan each day around whichever permit you can secure.

02How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Moab?

Start with the permit, since it sets the date. Arches takes applications up to a year ahead2, and Dead Horse Point State Park accepts them 1 to 18 months before the wedding12. Inquire once you have a season in mind: a deposit holds the date with your partner while the permit is requested.

03Do you travel to Moab, and is travel included?

Yes. Travel to Moab is built into the quote, not added afterwards, so the price list is the figure you plan with. We introduce you to an independent partner photographer matched to Moab and share their recent galleries and films before the call.

04Can we book photo and video together?

Yes, with one crew for both. Drones are not allowed in Arches2 or Canyonlands4, and Dead Horse Point prohibits them from March through October8, so the film is mostly shot from the ground, with microphones on the officiant and a recorder at the ceremony.

05What if it is very hot or it rains?

The July average high is 99.2 °F7, and October averages 1.03 in of rain7. In summer we place ceremonies in the first and last hours of daylight and keep guests in shade between them. If weather turns, the permit hour is short, so we agree a fallback before the day.

06How many photos do we receive, and when?

The number depends on the collection and the length of the day, and your partner states it in your contract along with the delivery dates. A sneak peek comes first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates in that contract. Ask on the call and have the count written down.

Say when.

Send us the date and the landscape you picture, whether an arch, an overlook or a canyon rim. We reply within one business day with the Moab price list and a partner's recent galleries.
