In short

We photograph and film weddings in Kelowna as one team, with an independent partner photographer matched to Kelowna. City park ceremony bookings open each February on a first-come basis, and British Columbia has no waiting period for a marriage licence, so the park date you can secure sets the plan. The price list arrives within one business day.

Wedding detail

We cover lakeside ceremonies, park weddings, vineyard-country weekends and small ceremonies in Kelowna and the Okanagan around it, for couples who live here and for those who fly in.

Collections

Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Kelowna is built into the quote, not added later.

Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Kelowna rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

Wedding detail

We plan an October wedding around a cold start and an early dusk. The sun is up from 07:19 to 18:061, on Pacific time (UTC−7), which British Columbia keeps all year2. The average high at Kelowna International Airport is 13.3 °C (55.9 °F) and the average low 1.1 °C (34.0 °F)3.

  1. Getting ready, with the details, the dress and the first frames of the film.
  2. The ceremony at Kasugai Gardens, the ornamental gardens behind City Hall, which take up to 25 and stay open to the public4. The officiant wears a lavalier microphone for the film.
  3. Family groups, then lunch.
  4. Portraits at Crown Lookout, halfway up Knox Mountain Drive, with downtown and the lake behind you4.
  5. The two of you on the lakeshore at City Park, in the last warm light.
  6. Sunset1, then back indoors for the toasts.

October averages 29.2 mm of rain3, so cold is the likelier problem than wet: the average low is close to freezing. We bring a wrap for each of you and keep the outdoor rounds short, with the covered Pioneer Pavilion at the top of Knox Mountain Park, for up to 30, as one fallback4. Knox Mountain can close at any time because of fire hazard, and the City then tries to move your booking to another park or refunds it in full4, so we agree a second park with you as well.

Where we shoot in Kelowna

The City books its ceremony sites by name and by headcount, so we start our portrait list from those. Knox Mountain Park alone covers 235 hectares of forest and grassland just north of the core.5

  • City Park, the Point a bookable ceremony site in the northwest corner of City Park with Okanagan Lake behind it, for up to 200 people.4
  • Waterfront Park pergola a pergola on a small hill surrounded by the lagoon, for ceremonies of up to 25.4
  • Kasugai Gardens ornamental gardens behind City Hall, up to 25, open to the public throughout.4
  • Kinsmen Park a central park with large trees and lakeside viewpoints, for ceremonies of up to 60.4
  • Crown Lookout halfway up Knox Mountain Drive, with downtown and Okanagan Lake in the background, for up to 30.4
  • Pioneer Pavilion a covered pavilion at the top of Knox Mountain Park, also for up to 30.4
  • William R. Bennett Bridge a pontoon bridge across Okanagan Lake, completed May 25, 2008.6
  • Okanagan Lake 135 km long and 4–5 km wide, with a 348 km² surface.7

How we match you with your photographer

Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you enquire about Kelowna, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.

Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.

How booking works

  1. Send the form with your date and location.
  2. We reply within one business day with the Kelowna price list and the partner's recent work.
  3. Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
  4. A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
  5. The day.
  6. A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.

Good to know in Kelowna

The BC Vital Statistics Agency's licences are sold by marriage licence issuers. The fee is $100 CAD, non-refundable, and includes the first marriage certificate8. There is no waiting period; you buy it within 3 months before the wedding, and you need 2 witnesses over 198. Only one of you has to apply in person, with primary ID for both, and nothing is mailed because the issuer prints the licence on the spot8. A marriage commissioner or religious official performs the ceremony8.

City of Kelowna park ceremonies open for booking on February 14 for the current year only, first come, first served; they are ceremonies only, in a 3-hour window that includes set-up and take-down, and insurance is required4. Expect a $300 CAD damage deposit that is refundable4. Flying a drone on City property needs a City permit, and only commercial operators can be approved9.

Questions couples ask

01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Kelowna?

Once you have a date, and before the City's park bookings open: they open on February 14 for the current year only and are first come, first served4. Park dates move fast, so we line the photographer's availability up first and hold it with a deposit while you secure the park.

02Do you travel to Kelowna, and is travel included?

Yes. Travel to Kelowna is built into the quote rather than added later. We introduce you to an independent partner photographer matched to Kelowna and share their recent galleries and films before you speak, so the call can be about timing and places.

03Can we book photo and video together?

Yes, with one crew for both. For aerial footage, flying a drone on City of Kelowna property needs a City permit, and only commercial operators can be approved, with a City business licence, liability insurance, a pilot licence and drone registration9. We ask whether your partner meets those conditions before promising any aerial shots.

04What if the weather turns on our wedding day?

October averages 29.2 mm of rain, with a mean low of 1.1 °C (34.0 °F)3, so we plan for cold more than for wet. Knox Mountain bookings can close for fire hazard, in which case the City tries to relocate the booking or refunds it4. We agree a second park with you ahead of time.

05How many photos do we receive, and when?

The number depends on the collection and how long the day runs, and your partner writes it, with the delivery dates, into the contract. You get a sneak peek first, then the full edited gallery and the film. Ask for the count on the introduction call and have it in writing.

Say when.

Tell us the date, or the month you are leaning toward, and whether you picture the lakeshore, a garden or the lookout. We reply within one business day with the Kelowna price list and a partner's recent galleries.
