How we shoot Savannah

In Savannah we plan three kinds of day: elopements in the squares, full-day weddings, and two-day weekends that open with a welcome evening.
Collections
Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Savannah is built into the quote, not added later.
Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Savannah rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

Good to know in Savannah
The Probate Court of Chatham County charges $76 for a marriage license1, or $36 with a certificate from a premarital education program of at least six hours. If neither of you lives in Georgia, the license must be obtained in the county where the ceremony will happen, and a Georgia license only covers a ceremony performed in Georgia1. The court does not perform ceremonies; the completed license goes back to it by mail for recording1.
In the city's parks and squares, a wedding of fewer than 50 people with no chairs, aisle runner, tent, tables or other décor can go ahead without a permit3. Any set-up needs a City special event permit and an off-duty Savannah Police officer3. The City lists March, April, May, September, October and November as peak season3.
For a summer date, note that June is the wettest month in the 1991–2020 normals, at 6.65 in4.

The day
The day,as we shoot it in Savannah

A sample March Saturday in Savannah. The sun rises at 07:34 and sets at 19:32 on the 15th2, and the month averages a high of 71.4 °F and a low of 48.6 °F4. The sun times are sourced; the clock times below are our plan around them.
- Getting ready, with soft window light for details and a portrait of each of you.
- First look and couple portraits in Chippewa Square, early, because the squares are first-come, first-served3.
- Ceremony, then family groups while everyone is still together.
- A break for lunch, shade and a reset.
- Walk to Forsyth Park for portraits as the light turns long.
- Sunset, the last frames, and the first hour of the reception.
March in Savannah means St. Patrick's Day. Forsyth Park has block-out dates that month, and the fountain stays dyed green until after the celebration3, so we check the calendar before we promise you that park.
Rain, heat and cold change the plan, not the day. March averages 3.5 in of rain4, so every portrait stop has a sheltered option. When July's average high reaches 92.3 °F4, we move portraits to the cooler ends of the day. In January, with an average low of 40.0 °F4, we start earlier and keep a wrap close.

Where we shoot in Savannah
Savannah was established in 17334, and the places below are the ones we build portraits and ceremonies around. Each is a public space, so we confirm its rules for your date on the planning call.
- Savannah Historic District roughly the pre-Civil War city limits, a National Historic Landmark District since 19666. We plan a route through it rather than a single stop.
- Forsyth Park a 30-acre city park inside the Historic District, bordered by Gaston Street, Drayton Street, Park Avenue and Whitaker Street7. It takes the long afternoon portraits.
- Chippewa Square one of the city's 22 squares, on Bull Street and McDonough Street, laid out in 18158. We use it for first-look portraits early in the day.
- Lafayette Square another of the 22, in the fourth row, on Abercorn Street and East Macon Street, laid out in 18379. We keep it for a short ceremony or a quiet portrait stop.
- Emmet Park also known as The Strand, running about 0.6 miles along Bay Street in the former Old Fort neighborhood10. We use its length for walking portraits.
- Yamacraw Bluff the bluff on the south bank of the Savannah River, now enclosed by downtown, where Oglethorpe arrived to settle the colony of Georgia11. It gives the day a riverside stop.

How we match you with your photographer
Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you inquire about Savannah, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.
Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.
How booking works
- Send the form with your date and location.
- We reply within one business day with the Savannah price list and the partner's recent work.
- Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
- A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
- The day.
- A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.
Questions couples ask
01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Savannah?
Book when you have a date, and sooner if it falls in March, April, May, September, October or November, the months the City lists as peak season for its parks and squares3. If your plan needs a City permit, applications open one year ahead and must be in no later than 90 days before the event3. A deposit holds your date once you have spoken with your partner.
02Do you travel to Savannah, and is travel included?
Travel to Savannah is built into the quote, not added later, whether your partner lives nearby or travels in, so your date matters more than the distance. If you would like part of the day outside the city, say so on the form and the price list will reflect it.
03Can we book photo and video together?
Yes. Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. That matters in a city where the squares are first-come, first-served3: one team that plans the order of stops is easier on you, and on everyone else using the square.
04How many photos do we receive, and when?
Your partner states the gallery size and the delivery dates in your contract, because both depend on the collection and the hours. A sneak peek comes first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates in that contract. Ask for the number when you speak; a partner who cannot give one is not the right match.
05What happens if it rains on our wedding day?
We plan for it from the start. June is the wettest month in the 1991–2020 normals, at 6.65 in, and March still averages 3.5 in4. Each portrait stop has a sheltered option and the timeline has a second portrait window, so we decide together in the morning, not at the park gate.
06Can we get the raw files?
Raw files are not part of any collection: each one includes edited images, print rights and, for film, the finished edits. If you need originals for a specific reason, ask your partner before you sign, because the contract is where it is settled.
Say when.
Send us your date and the square or park you have in mind. We reply within one business day with the Savannah price list and a partner's recent work.
