Wedding detail

In Louisville we plan elopements in the Olmsted parks, full-day weddings that move from a Victorian neighborhood to the river, and two-day weekends.

Collections

Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Louisville is built into the quote, not added later.

Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Louisville rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

A sample May Saturday in Louisville. The sun rises at 06:32 and sets at 20:47 on the 15th1, with an average high of 77.8 °F and a low of 58.7 °F4. The sun times are sourced; the clock times are our plan around them.

  1. Getting ready; we arrive early enough to shoot the details before anyone is dressed.
  2. First look and couple portraits in Old Louisville, walking between its streets.
  3. Ceremony, at the venue you have chosen.
  4. Family groups, then a short break before the evening light.
  5. Portraits on the Big Four Bridge, open to bicycles and pedestrians since 20135, with the Ohio River below.
  6. The last portraits at Waterfront Park, in the final hour before the 20:47 sunset1.

May is the wettest month in the normals, at 5.18 in4, so a May plan always carries a sheltered stop and a timeline loose enough to move. In July the average high is 89.0 °F4, and we shift portraits to the cooler ends of the day. January's average low is 27.8 °F4; a winter elopement is a short outdoor ceremony and a warm place for everything else.

If the ceremony is earlier in the day, the order flips: Cherokee Park, designed in 1891 by Frederick Law Olmsted6, takes the morning portraits and the river comes last.

Where we shoot in Louisville

Louisville was established in 17784. The places below are where we plan portraits and ceremonies, and we confirm any rules for your date on the planning call.

  • Louisville Waterfront Park an 85-acre public park on the Ohio River, adjacent to downtown and the wharf7. The river light at the end of the day.
  • Big Four Bridge a six-span truss bridge over the Ohio River to Jeffersonville, Indiana; completed in 1895, rebuilt in 1929 and converted to bicycle and pedestrian use in 20135.
  • Cherokee Park a 409-acre park designed in 1891 by Frederick Law Olmsted, part of the Louisville Olmsted Parks system6. A park for walking portraits.
  • Old Louisville the largest US preservation district of almost entirely Victorian architecture8. Streets to walk between stops.
  • Whiskey Row the stretch of Main Street near the Ohio River that housed the bourbon industry9. A short stop for a city frame.
  • Cherokee Triangle a historic neighborhood of large homes in mixed architectural styles, bounded by Bardstown Road, Cherokee Park and Cave Hill Cemetery10.
  • Shawnee Park a municipal park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed 18 of the city's 123 public parks11.

How we match you with your photographer

Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you inquire about Louisville, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.

Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.

How booking works

  1. Send the form with your date and location.
  2. We reply within one business day with the Louisville price list and the partner's recent work.
  3. Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
  4. A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
  5. The day.
  6. A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.

Good to know in Louisville

Kentucky marriage licenses come from the county clerk; in Louisville that is the Jefferson County Clerk. The fee is $60, set by state law since June 20253. Both of you must be present, with a driver's license, current state picture ID or passport; there is no blood test and no waiting period2. The license is valid for 30 days, counting the date of issue, and the ceremony needs two witnesses in addition to the two of you and the officiant2.

A Kentucky license can be used in any Kentucky county but nowhere outside Kentucky, and if the marriage is not solemnized within the 30 days you apply again2. The Big Four Bridge ends in Indiana, so a ceremony on the far side would need a license valid there; portraits can go anywhere.

Dress for the date: October averages a high of 70.5 °F and a low of 50.1 °F4.

Questions couples ask

01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Louisville?

Book when you have a date. Kentucky has no waiting period and a license is valid for 30 days2, so the license is the last thing to arrange and the photographer's date is the one that needs lead time. A deposit holds it once you have spoken with your partner.

02Do you travel to Louisville, and is travel included?

Travel to Louisville is built into the quote, whether your partner lives nearby or travels in. If part of your day is across the Ohio River in Indiana, tell us on the form. A Kentucky license cannot be used outside Kentucky2, so check the ceremony location before you plan it.

03Can we book photo and video together?

Yes. Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day, so the film crew and the photographer share one timeline instead of competing for the same spot on the Big Four Bridge or at the river.

04How many photos do we receive, and when?

Your contract with the photographer sets the number of images and the delivery dates; both depend on the collection and the hours. A sneak peek arrives first, then the full gallery and the film on the contracted dates. Ask for the figure when you speak.

05What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

May is the wettest month in the normals, at 5.18 in4, so a May date is planned with rain in it: a sheltered option for each portrait stop, a second portrait window, and a decision taken together in the morning. A passing shower moves the portraits, not the ceremony.

Say when.

Tell us your date, and whether the river, an Olmsted park or a Victorian street is the picture in your head. We reply within one business day with the Louisville price list.
