Wedding videographer in New Orleans

In New Orleans the film is planned around two things we can look up: the length of the day and the weather. This page covers what the film includes, how the sound is recorded, and the light you can expect.

In short

Our New Orleans wedding videography are a feature film, a teaser and a ceremony edit with full audio, recorded with lavalier microphones by the crew that photographs your day. Suncalc's NOAA algorithm puts the November 15 sunset at 17:041, which shapes when a ceremony is filmed. Send your date for the price list.

Every New Orleans wedding film from Troth Weddings has three parts. The feature film tells the day in order. The teaser is the short edit for sharing. The ceremony edit keeps the whole ceremony, picture and complete audio, so the vows and readings can be heard from start to finish.

Ceremony sound comes from a lavalier microphone on the officiant and a separate recorder, not from a camera across the room. That matters outdoors, where a camera microphone picks up everything around it and not only the person you want to hear.

The film and the photographs come from one crew, so the portrait stops, such as Jackson Square or the Garden District, are lit and timed once for both. Film and photography share one schedule, so there is a single plan for the day, a single call with your partner and one set of delivery dates in the contract. Film-only collections are available; choose the Film column on the form and the price list is written for it.

Light

Filming light in New Orleans

Wedding detail

The film schedule moves a long way across the year: the sun sets at 17:04 on November 15 and at 20:02 on July 151. In November the ceremony is filmed in the early afternoon, so the film's closing portraits use the last light; in July the light lasts well into the evening.

Weather is the other variable. November averages a 71.2°F high and 3.87 inches of precipitation2. July averages a 91.4°F high and 6.79 inches2. On a hot afternoon we shift outdoor filming to the start and end of the day; on a wet one the ceremony is filmed under cover with the microphones already in place, as agreed with your partner beforehand.

Collections

Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to New Orleans is built into the quote, not added later.

Film questions

01How long is the wedding film in New Orleans?

Your partner names the lengths of the feature film and the teaser in the contract, so we don't publish one runtime for every wedding. The package itself is fixed: feature film, teaser and a ceremony edit with full audio. A second day, such as a rehearsal dinner, gives the edit more to cut from.

02Do you record the vows and speeches?

Yes. Vows are recorded on a lavalier microphone and a separate recorder worn by the officiant, which is why the ceremony edit has complete audio. Speeches are recorded when they fall inside your coverage; say so on the call if you want them filmed in full.

03Do you fly a drone in New Orleans?

Not by default. We don't promise drone footage in New Orleans: whether it is allowed depends on the rules for each place, and those change. Your partner checks every stop in your plan and tells you before the date what is permitted; where a drone is not allowed, the film is shot from the ground.

04When is the film delivered?

On the date written into your contract with the partner. A sneak peek always comes first, then the full gallery and the film. Ask for the film date on your first call, so that it is settled and written down before you pay the deposit that holds your day.

Say when.

Send the date, or only the month, and the New Orleans price list arrives within one business day with a partner's recent films. Tell us if you want film alone or with photographs.
