Wedding photographer & videographer in Halifax
Halifax Public Gardens, a National Historic Site since 19841, do not allow wedding ceremonies, although photography there needs no booking2. We photograph and film weddings across the city as one team, and we begin by sorting which spot is for the vows and which is for the portraits.

How we shoot Halifax

We cover harbour-side ceremonies, park weddings, small elopements and two-day weekends in Halifax and across the water in Dartmouth, for couples from the region and from away.
Collections
Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Halifax is built into the quote, not added later.
Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Halifax rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

Where we shoot in Halifax
The Halifax peninsula holds gardens, a fort, a forested point and a boardwalk, and each has its own rule about weddings. We match the spot to the moment: ceremony here, portraits there.
- Halifax Public Gardens Victorian-era gardens established in 1867.1 Photography is allowed without pre-booking; ceremonies are not.2
- Citadel Hill a National Historic Site whose present fort, the fourth on the hill, is a concrete star fort.3
- Point Pleasant Park a forested park at the southern tip of the peninsula, home to the Prince of Wales Tower (1796), North America's oldest Martello tower.4
- Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk a public footpath along the Halifax Harbour waterfront.5
- Historic Properties boardwalk warehouses whose construction began during the Napoleonic Wars.6
- Sir Sandford Fleming Park (the Dingle) a 95-acre (38 ha) park whose Memorial Tower was built between 1908 and 1912.7
- Halifax Common described as Canada's oldest urban park.8
- Hemlock Ravine Park listed by the Halifax Regional Municipality among its popular outdoor wedding spaces.2
Vehicles are not permitted in the municipality's parks except on designated roadways, and parking is first come, first served, so we plan the walk from the car with you.2

The day
The day,as we shoot it in Halifax

We plan an October wedding around damp, cool light. The sun rises at 07:29 and sets at 18:309, the average high is 13.4 °C (56.1 °F) and the average low 6.4 °C (43.5 °F) at the Citadel Hill weather station10, so coats go on for most of the portraits and the running order follows the light, not the clock.
- Getting ready, and the details: rings, shoes, whatever you carry that morning. The film opens on the quiet before the day starts.
- Ceremony in a park booked through the municipality, for example Sir Sandford Fleming Park, one of the listed parks2. The officiant carries a lavalier microphone for the film.
- Family groups beside the Memorial Tower, built 1908–19127.
- Portraits at the Public Gardens, which need no pre-booking2.
- Citadel Hill, if the permit has been approved. Wedding photography there must be applied for in advance11.
- The waterfront boardwalk as the light drops toward the 18:30 sunset9.
- Back to the reception, where we film the toasts with a recorder on the table and photograph the first dance.
October averages 124.3 mm of rain at the Citadel Hill station10, so umbrellas are part of the kit and the covered fallback is agreed in advance. January is wetter still, at 139.7 mm10, which is why the plan never depends on a single outdoor window.
| Month | Sunrise | Sunset |
|---|---|---|
| Jan | 07:47 | 16:59 |
| Apr | 06:30 | 19:59 |
| Jul | 05:43 | 20:57 |
| Oct | 07:29 | 18:30 |
Sunrise and sunset computed for the 15th of each month, local time.9
How we match you with your photographer
Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you enquire about Halifax, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.
Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.
How booking works
- Send the form with your date and location.
- We reply within one business day with the Halifax price list and the partner's recent work.
- Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
- A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
- The day.
- A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.
Good to know in Halifax
Nova Scotia Vital Statistics licences are issued by Access Nova Scotia or a Deputy Issuer, and you do not need to live in the province to apply or to marry here12. The fee is $132.70 CAD, the licence is valid for 3 months, and you need 2 witnesses, each at least 1612. Both of you bring signed, unexpired government ID and proof of age, and the licence is normally issued right away12. The officiant must be registered with Vital Statistics12.
The Halifax Regional Municipality charges $92.17 CAD plus HST for a park booking from April 1, 20262, and ceremonies are not limited to its listed parks2. Vehicles are allowed only on designated park roadways2. At Halifax Citadel, wedding photography runs while the site is open to the public, or after hours for an additional fee11.

Questions couples ask
01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Halifax?
As soon as the date is set, since a deposit is what holds it. Then build in time for permissions: Halifax Citadel requires its wedding photography permit to be applied for in advance11, and park ceremonies are booked through the municipality2. We map which spots on your list need what, so nothing is discovered the week before.
02Do you travel to Halifax, and is travel included?
Yes. Travel to Halifax is built into the quote, not added at the end, so the price list is the figure you plan with. We introduce you to an independent partner photographer matched to Halifax and share their recent galleries and films before you speak.
03Can we book photo and video together?
Yes, with one crew for both. At the Citadel, wedding photography needs a permit applied for in advance11. We ask Parks Canada about filming in the same request and tell you the answer before the date is fixed. Sound comes from a lavalier microphone on the officiant and a recorder alongside.
04What happens if it rains on our wedding day?
Rain is part of Halifax weather in every season: each of January, April, July and October averages more than 100 mm at the Citadel Hill station10. We plan a covered fallback and carry umbrellas, and the garden and boardwalk portraits are chosen so they still work in grey light.
05How many photos do we receive, and when?
It depends on the collection and how long the day runs, and your partner writes the count and the delivery dates into the contract. A sneak peek comes first, then the full gallery and the film. Ask for the number on the introduction call and have it in writing.
Say when.
Send us your date, or the month you are leaning toward, and whether you picture the harbour, a garden or the woods. We reply within one business day with the Halifax price list and a partner's recent galleries.
