Wedding detail

In Tulsa we plan elopements in the city's gardens and parks, full-day weddings, and two-day weekends with a welcome evening.

Collections

Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Tulsa is built into the quote, not added later.

Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Tulsa rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

A sample April Saturday in Tulsa. The sun rises at 06:50 and sets at 19:57 on the 15th1, with an average high of 72.1 °F and a low of 49.5 °F6. The sun times are sourced; the clock times are our plan around them.

  1. Getting ready, with the details and the room photographed first.
  2. First look and couple portraits in Woodward Park, where the Tulsa Garden Center sells an outdoor photography permit5.
  3. Ceremony, at the garden or the venue you have chosen.
  4. Family groups, kept brisk so the river light is saved for the couple.
  5. Portraits at Gathering Place, along the Arkansas River7.
  6. The last portraits, in the final hour before the 19:57 sunset1.

May is the wettest month in the normals, at 5.73 in, and April still averages 4.37 in6, so every stop carries a sheltered option and the timeline stays loose enough to move. July is the hottest month, with an average high of 93.6 °F6; summer portraits sit at the very start and end of the day. January's average low is 28.0 °F6.

If the plan includes the Tulsa Botanic Garden, a ceremony held during a photo session falls under the Garden's wedding rules8, so we settle the order of the day with them before we settle anything else.

Where we shoot in Tulsa

Tulsa was incorporated in 18986. The places below are where we plan portraits and ceremonies; the two gardens have their own photography permits, covered under Good to know.

  • Woodward Park a 45-acre public park, botanical garden and arboretum, established in 19299, between 21st and 24th Streets east of South Peoria Avenue.
  • Gathering Place opened on September 8, 20187, a 66.5-acre park along the Arkansas River designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh.
  • Guthrie Green a 2.6-acre urban park in the Tulsa Arts District, opened in September 201210.
  • Tulsa Botanic Garden a 170-acre botanical garden about 8 miles northwest of downtown, in Osage County11.
  • Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area about 738 acres managed by the Tulsa River Parks Authority, open for hiking and trail running12.
  • Swan Lake a historic district between 15th and 21st Streets and Peoria Avenue and Utica Street13. We use its streets when a portrait needs a neighborhood behind it.
  • Blue Dome Historic District a seventeen-block district east of downtown, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 201614.
  • Zink Lake a redeveloped reservoir on the Arkansas River, part of the Vision Tulsa riverfront program15.

How we match you with your photographer

Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you inquire about Tulsa, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.

Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.

How booking works

  1. Send the form with your date and location.
  2. We reply within one business day with the Tulsa price list and the partner's recent work.
  3. Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
  4. A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
  5. The day.
  6. A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.

Good to know in Tulsa

Oklahoma marriage licenses come from the court clerk of the county, in Tulsa's case the Tulsa County Court Clerk. The fee is $503, or $5 with a certificate from a premarital counseling program of at least four hours4. The license is valid in any Oklahoma county16. The ceremony must take place within 30 days of issuance, and the license and completed certificate go back to the court clerk within the same 30 days2. Two adults witness the ceremony17.

In Woodward Park, an outdoor photography permit sold by the Tulsa Garden Center costs $25 per day5. At the Tulsa Botanic Garden, posed and portrait sessions need the professional permit, at $50 per hour plus admission for everyone in the party8; an after-hours session is $350 for two hours8. Drones, props, walking into beds and costume changes during operating hours are not allowed8.

Dress for the date: November's average low is 39.4 °F6.

Questions couples ask

01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Tulsa?

Settle the photographer first and the license last. Oklahoma gives you 30 days from issuance to hold the ceremony and return the paperwork2, so the license is a late job, while the photographer's date needs the lead time. A deposit holds it once you have spoken with your partner.

02Do you travel to Tulsa, and is travel included?

Travel to Tulsa is built into the quote, whether your partner lives nearby or travels in. If your day includes the Tulsa Botanic Garden, which is about 8 miles northwest of downtown in Osage County11, say so on the form so the price list covers it.

03Can we book photo and video together?

Yes. Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Film plans around local rules: the Tulsa Botanic Garden does not allow drones during operating hours8, so aerial footage there is not part of the plan.

04How many photos do we receive, and when?

The number of images and the delivery dates are set in your contract with the photographer, because both depend on the collection and the hours. A sneak peek comes first, then the full gallery and the film on those dates. Ask for the figure when you speak.

05What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

May is the wettest month in the normals, at 5.73 in, and April averages 4.37 in6. We bring a sheltered option for each stop and a second portrait window. If a permit is involved, such as the daily Woodward Park permit5, ask the Garden Center how it handles a wet day before you buy it.

Say when.

Tell us your date, and whether a garden, the river or the Arts District is closest to what you picture. We reply within one business day with the Tulsa price list.
