How we shoot Knoxville

The Knoxville days we cover run from short ceremonies with portraits to full weddings and two-day weekends, as photo, video or both.
Collections
Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Knoxville is built into the quote, not added later.
Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Knoxville rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

The day
The day,as we shoot it in Knoxville

On May 15 the Knoxville sun rises at 06:30 and sets at 20:341, and May averages a 78.9°F high and a 56.9°F low3. That gives a full day plenty of room; a half day keeps the ceremony and the portraits and drops the rest. A sample full day:
- Sunrise1. Details and the dress; if you want first-light portraits, Sharp's Ridge north of downtown, which averages 200 to 300 feet above the valley floor4.
- Morning A first look, then family portraits downtown on Market Square, the pedestrian mall established in 1854 as a market place for regional farmers5.
- Afternoon The ceremony, photographed and filmed by the same crew.
- Evening The two of you on the Gay Street Bridge, a 1,512-foot span over the Tennessee River completed in 18986.
- Sunset1. Closing portraits at Volunteer Landing, the riverwalk below the bridge7, and the last frames of the film.
May averages 4.13 inches of precipitation, July 5.25 inches, and July's average high is 88.4°F3. For a summer wedding we move portraits to the start and end of the day and keep the ceremony shaded or indoors. In January the sun sets at 17:441, so a winter wedding keeps a short outdoor portrait window before dusk.

Where we shoot in Knoxville
Eight Knoxville places we use for ceremonies and portraits, each described from a public source. Rules differ by site and change, so your partner confirms the current one for every stop before the date.

- Market Square a historic district and pedestrian mall downtown, established in 18545.

- Volunteer Landing a public park and riverwalk along the Tennessee River below the Gay Street Bridge7.
- Fort Dickerson Park a nature park on an 1863 Union fort site, with the earthen fort, Augusta Quarry and 4 miles of trail, on 85 acres9.
- Ijams Nature Center a nature park opened in 1975, with a quarry lake and over 14 miles of trails through the former marble quarries, on 336 acres10.
- Sharp's Ridge a steep ridge north of downtown, 111 acres of it maintained as Sharp's Ridge Memorial Park4.
- Island Home Park an early-1900s streetcar suburb along the Tennessee River with the city's largest concentration of bungalow-style houses11.

How we match you with your photographer
Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you inquire about Knoxville, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.
Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.
How booking works
- Send the form with your date and location.
- We reply within one business day with the Knoxville price list and the partner's recent work.
- Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
- A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
- The day.
- A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.
Good to know in Knoxville
Marriage licenses in Knoxville come from the Knox County Clerk2. The fee is $97.50, reduced to $37.50 if you completed a premarital preparation course within a year before applying and present the notarized certificate when you pay. There is no waiting period, and the license is valid for 30 days, counting the day it is issued2.
Both of you apply in person with proof of date of birth (a certified birth certificate or government-issued photo ID) and a Social Security number if one has been issued; the online pre-application saves time at the office, and the license is good for a ceremony anywhere in Tennessee2. The Clerk also marries couples at the Old Courthouse, by appointment, currently for Knox County residents only, for the couple and 6 guests2.
We list no park permit rule for Knoxville, so your partner checks the current rule at each stop. July is the warm month: an average high of 88.4°F and a low of 68.7°F3.

Questions couples ask
01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Knoxville?
02Can we book photo and video together in Knoxville?
Yes. Collections are photo, video or both, shot by the same team on the day, which means one schedule for getting ready, the ceremony and the portraits at the river. Choose Photo + Video on the form and the price list covers both.
03How many photos do we receive, and when?
That depends on how long we cover and how the day unfolds, and it is stated in your partner's contract; we don't print one number for every Knoxville wedding. What never changes is the order: a sneak peek within days, then the full gallery and the film on the contract dates.
04What happens if it rains on our wedding day?
We plan for it. May averages 4.13 inches of precipitation and July 5.25 inches3, so the ceremony gets an agreed covered or indoor alternative, and portraits move to dry stops. A wet forecast is a reason to call your partner, not to cancel.
05Can we get the raw files?
Raw files are not part of a collection, which includes the edited gallery. Some photographers release unedited files and some don't, and the terms are written into the contract, so raise it on the call with your partner before you pay the deposit.
Say when.
Send a date, or only a month, and the Knoxville price list reaches you within one business day with a partner's recent work. If you aren't sure yet, say that instead; we still reply.
