Wedding photo & video across Hawaii

In Hawaii we shoot on three islands: Maui, Kauai and Oahu. One team makes the photographs and the film, an independent partner photographer is matched to your location and date, and your contract is with them. Each island has a page for weddings and a page for elopements.

The license is the same on every island, but the permit is not. It depends on who owns the ground: the National Park Service for Haleakalā on Maui1, the state's DLNR for state beaches2, and the City and County of Honolulu for the botanical gardens on Oahu3.

The price list is written for the island you name, with travel built in; send the form with your date and we reply within one business day.

Locations in Hawaii

Each island has its own pages. Maui: weddings and elopements. Kauai: weddings and elopements. Oahu: weddings and elopements. Maui covers the crater and the lava coast, Kauai the north shore and the south-coast beaches, and Oahu the windward beaches and the city's gardens. Each page lists the sites, the light by month and the permit rules that apply there, island by island.

Hawaii has one statewide license, issued through Department of Health marriage license agents. The fee is $65 ($60 application plus a $5 portal fee), non-refundable4. There is no waiting period, and the license is valid for 30 days from pick-up4.

Apply online, then both of you meet an agent in person with government photo ID, no sooner than 30 days before the ceremony; proxies are not allowed4. Hawaii questions

01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Hawaii?

Book when the date is set, and start permits early. Hawaii State Parks ask for a special use permit request at least 45 days ahead, or 90 for events with a commercial aspect5. The license is the last piece: it is valid for 30 days from pick-up4. A deposit holds your date with the partner.

02Do you travel to Hawaii, and is travel included?

Travel is built into the quote for the island you name, and we introduce an independent partner photographer matched to that island. The same license covers every island4, so the paperwork does not change if you move the ceremony from one island to another; the permit does.

03Can we book photo and video together in Hawaii?

Yes. One crew shoots both. On state shoreline, a Wiki Permits permit or a Hawaii Film Office permit covers a photographer6, and in Honolulu's botanical gardens the garden permit covers commercial photography and video3. We tell the partner your site early so the right permit names the crew.

04What happens if it rains on our wedding day in Hawaii?

We plan a second window and a second site. State-shoreline permits allow no tents7, so rain on a beach is met with timing, while a garden permit can allow a tent if the permit says so3. Each island page lists the rain averages for its weather station.
