How we shoot Glacier National Park

In Glacier we cover elopements and small ceremonies, because every ceremony in the park is permitted and group sizes are capped.
Collections
Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Glacier National Park is built into the quote, not added later.
Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Glacier National Park rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

Where we shoot in Glacier National Park
Glacier's ceremony sites are fixed by the Park Service, and its lakes do the rest of the work. These are the places we plan around, with the limits that matter for a wedding group.
- Lake McDonald the largest lake in the park, about 10 miles long and 472 ft deep at 3,153 ft1, with Going-to-the-Sun Road along its southern shore.
- Logan Pass a pass on the Continental Divide at 6,646 ft3, the highest point on Going-to-the-Sun Road and the start of the Highline Trail through the Garden Wall wildflower area.
- Saint Mary Lake the park's second-largest lake, on the east side at 4,484 ft and 9.9 miles long, with the road along its north shore4.
- Trail of the Cedars a paved 0.6-mile path with boardwalk sections, where some cedars exceed 80 ft5.
- Swiftcurrent Lake the Many Glacier lake at 4,878 ft, with the mountains immediately west rising about 3,000 ft above it6.
- Lake Josephine just south-west of Swiftcurrent Lake7. Ceremonies are limited to 15 participants at the dock, a one-mile hike each way with no vehicle access2.
- Two Medicine Lake about 2 miles long, with Rising Wolf Mountain rising more than 4,450 ft above it8. The Two Medicine ceremony sites are not available in 2026 through May 2027 because of construction2.

The day
The day,as we shoot it in Glacier National Park

A July day in Glacier is long: on July 15 the sun rises at 05:48 and sets at 21:33, computed for Logan Pass9. The ceremony fits inside a permit window of two hours, including arrival, set-up and wrap-up10, so the rest of the day is planned around it. Before or after the permitted time you may photograph anywhere in the park open to the public, under the same rules as any visitor10.
- Couple portraits on a lake shore in early light.
- The ceremony inside the permit window.
- Family portraits and a long lunch.
- Evening portraits as the sun drops towards 21:339.
Nights run cool even in July. West Glacier (3,148 ft) averages 80.2 °F and 49.6 °F in July, with 1.39 in of rain11, so even a summer evening calls for a layer. October averages 51.7 °F and 32.9 °F with 3.05 in11, and January a 29.9 °F high with 3.54 in11; on January 15 the sun rises at 08:22 and sets at 17:069. Permits are generally written only for dates with vehicle access2, so the calendar, not the guest list, often sets the day. A wet ceremony hour is handled by moving the portraits to the visitor-rules windows before or after it.

How we match you with your photographer
Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you inquire about Glacier National Park, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.
Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.
How booking works
- Send the form with your date and location.
- We reply within one business day with the Glacier National Park price list and the partner's recent work.
- Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
- A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
- The day.
- A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.
Good to know in Glacier National Park
Every ceremony in the park needs a special use permit, whatever the group size, with a $125 non-refundable application fee10. Applications are emailed up to one year ahead; four weeks is the minimum recommended, and processing can take several months10. Drones are prohibited, and photographers and videographers count toward your group size10.
The marriage license comes from the Clerk of District Court in Flathead County (Kalispell)12 or Glacier County. It costs $53, has no waiting period and stays valid for 180 days13. A Montana license is valid in any Montana county but not in any other state or country10.
Logan Pass sits at 6,646 ft3, while the climate station at West Glacier is 3,148 ft11; the weather at the pass is not the weather in the table.

Questions couples ask
01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Glacier National Park?
Start with the permit. The Park Service accepts applications up to one year ahead, recommends at least four weeks, and warns that processing can take several months10. Permits are generally written only for dates with vehicle access2. Book the team once the date and site are chosen, and a deposit holds it.
02Can we book photo and video together in Glacier National Park?
Yes, with one crew. The park counts photographers and videographers toward group size, prohibits drones, and allows only a small Bluetooth speaker or an acoustic instrument10. So the film is shot from the ground, and we record the ceremony audio on the officiant.
03What happens if it rains on our wedding day in Glacier National Park?
04Do you travel to Glacier National Park, and is travel included?
05How many photos do we receive, and when?
The number depends on the length of coverage, so the partner states it in your contract. A Glacier gallery combines the permitted ceremony, which is limited to two hours10, with the portraits made before and after it. Every photo collection includes an edited gallery, print rights and a sneak peek within days.
Say when.
Tell us the date, the lake or trail you have in mind and who is coming. We reply within one business day with the Glacier National Park price list and a partner's recent work.
