Wedding photographer & videographer in Charlotte

Charlotte gives a wedding two kinds of ground: small parks inside the center, such as the 5.4-acre Romare Bearden Park on South Church Street1, and larger green space such as the 98-acre Freedom Park, built around a 7-acre lake2. We plan the day to move between the two.

Wedding detail

In Charlotte we plan elopements in the city's gardens and greenways, full-day weddings and two-day weekends. For film in particular, see our Charlotte wedding videography page.

Collections

Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Charlotte is built into the quote, not added later.

Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Charlotte rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

Where we shoot in Charlotte

Charlotte was incorporated in 17685. The places below are where we plan portraits and ceremonies, and we confirm access and any rules on the planning call.

  • Romare Bearden Park opened in 2013 and named for the Charlotte-born artist Romare Bearden1. Our downtown stop for first-look portraits.
  • Freedom Park between Dilworth and Myers Park, centered on its lake2. The water for the last light.
  • McGill Rose Garden a city-supported garden on North Davidson Street in Belmont, an All-America Rose Selections public garden6.
  • Little Sugar Creek Greenway a linear park and stream restoration running south from Cordelia Park through midtown7. Good for portraits on the move.
  • Fourth Ward Park a three-acre park on North Poplar Street with walking paths and water fountains8. Compact, so it suits a short session.
  • Independence Park a 24-acre park created in 1924, the oldest public park in Charlotte9. History in the frame without leaving the city.
  • Latta Park a 31-acre park on East Park Avenue in Dilworth, with walking trails10.
  • Wesley Heights Historic District a national historic district of 335 contributing buildings in a former streetcar suburb11. Residential streets for a portrait that needs a neighborhood behind it.

A sample October Saturday in Charlotte. The sun rises at 07:29 and sets at 18:48 on the 15th12, with an average high of 73.3 °F and a low of 50.4 °F5. The sun times are sourced; the clock times are our plan around them.

  1. Getting ready, then a short walk to the park.
  2. First look and couple portraits at Fourth Ward Park, among its walking paths8.
  3. Ceremony.
  4. Family groups, then a short break.
  5. Portraits by the lake in Freedom Park, for the light before the 18:48 sunset12.
  6. Sunset, and the last frames of the day.

Autumn days shorten quickly: on the 15th, sunset is 18:48 in October and 17:12 in December12, so a late-autumn ceremony starts earlier than a summer one. October is one of the drier months, at 3.16 in of rain against 4.35 in in August, the wettest5. July's average high is 90.3 °F5, which moves summer portraits to the ends of the day; January's average low is 31.8 °F5, so a winter wrap is part of the kit.

If the ceremony comes earlier, the order changes: we use the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, a linear park running south from Cordelia Park through midtown7, for portraits on foot between the ceremony and the reception.

How we match you with your photographer

Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you inquire about Charlotte, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.

Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.

How booking works

  1. Send the form with your date and location.
  2. We reply within one business day with the Charlotte price list and the partner's recent work.
  3. Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
  4. A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
  5. The day.
  6. A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.

Good to know in Charlotte

North Carolina marriage licenses can be bought at any Register of Deeds office in the state; in Charlotte that is Mecklenburg County's. Its fee schedule lists the license at $604. The state's split of that $60 is $5 to the Children's Trust Fund and $30 to the Domestic Violence Center Fund, with $25 kept by the county3. There is no waiting period, the license is valid for 60 days from issuance, and the ceremony needs two witnesses3. The officiant must return the completed license to the Register of Deeds within 10 days after the ceremony3. You complete a marriage license application worksheet and an affidavit of eligibility to marry before it is issued3.

Dress for the date: December's average low is 34.5 °F5.

Questions couples ask

01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Charlotte?

Book when you have a date. North Carolina has no waiting period and a license is valid for 60 days from issuance3, so the license is the last job and the photographer's date is the one that needs lead time. A deposit holds it once you have spoken with your partner.

02Do you travel to Charlotte, and is travel included?

Travel to Charlotte is built into the quote, whether your partner lives nearby or travels in. If your day also takes in a shoreline or a venue outside the city, name it on the form so the price list covers the whole day.

03Can we book photo and video together?

Yes. Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Our Charlotte wedding videography page sets out what the film includes and how the sound is recorded, so the people speaking at your ceremony are heard clearly.

04How many photos do we receive, and when?

The number of images and the delivery dates are written into your contract with the photographer, because both depend on the collection and the hours. You see a sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on those dates. Ask for the figure on your call.

05What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

August is the wettest month in the normals, at 4.35 in, and April averages 3.84 in5. We bring a sheltered backup for each stop and keep a second portrait window in the timeline. The decision is made together early in the day, not at the park gate.

Say when.

Send your date and the Charlotte setting you are picturing, whether a park, a garden or a greenway. We reply within one business day with the Charlotte price list and a partner's recent work.
