In short

A Charlotte wedding film is a feature, a teaser and a full ceremony edit, shot by the crew that photographs your day, with lavalier microphones on the speakers and a recorder on the officiant. On the 15th the sun sets at 20:38 in July and 17:12 in December1, which sets when a ceremony can be filmed.

A film collection includes three things: a feature film that tells the day in order, a short teaser built to be shared, and a full ceremony edit with the audio intact. The feature is cut from the whole day, not from highlights alone, and the ceremony edit exists so that nothing said during the vows is lost under music.

Sound is recorded on the day, not added afterwards: lavalier microphones go on the people speaking, and a separate recorder goes on the officiant, so the vows come through whatever the weather or the room does. Photo and video come from one crew, so the camera positions are planned together and your guests see fewer people working around them.

In Charlotte we look for places where a camera can move: the walking paths and water fountains of Fourth Ward Park2, the lake in Freedom Park3, or the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, a linear park running south from Cordelia Park4. Open parks are windy places, and the recorder on the officiant is the reason the vows survive them.

Light

Filming light in Charlotte

Wedding detail

Film needs light for longer than photographs do, because a ceremony is shot in real time and cannot be repeated. That makes sunset the planning limit, and it moves a long way across the year. On the 15th the sun sets at 19:56 in April, at 20:38 in July and at 17:12 in December1. A July ceremony can start in the evening; a December one has to start by mid-afternoon to be filmed in daylight.

Heat and rain matter to equipment as much as to people. July's average high is 90.3 °F and August is the wettest month at 4.35 in5, so we shoot summer ceremonies in shade where we can and cover cameras and microphones in rain. In the cold, January's average low is 31.8 °F5, and batteries lose charge faster, so we carry spares.

How booking works

  1. Send the form with your date and location.
  2. We reply within one business day with the Charlotte price list and the partner's recent work.
  3. Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
  4. A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
  5. The day.
  6. A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.

Film questions

01How long is the wedding film?

It depends on the collection, and your partner states the running times in the contract. The feature tells the day in order, the teaser is short enough to share, and the ceremony edit runs for as long as the ceremony did. Ask for the running times when you speak, because they are what you are buying.

02Do you record the vows and speeches?

Yes. Lavalier microphones go on the people speaking and a separate recorder goes on the officiant, so the vows are captured as audio, not guessed from the picture. The ceremony edit keeps that audio whole. Reception speeches are recorded when the room allows; tell us if they are a priority.

03Do you fly a drone?

It depends on the venue and the local rules, and Charlotte has no single rule we can quote you. If you want aerial footage, tell us the venue; we confirm that flying is allowed there before it goes into the plan, and if it is not allowed, it does not go in.

04When is the film delivered?

Your contract sets the date. The booking steps put a sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the contracted dates; a teaser can arrive ahead of the feature if your partner offers it. Ask for the delivery date in writing before you pay a deposit.

Say when.

Send your date and tell us if the film matters more to you than the photographs. We reply within one business day with the Charlotte price list and a partner's recent films.
