Wedding detail

We shoot three shapes of day in Pittsburgh: a small ceremony with portraits, a full wedding from getting ready to the first hour of the reception, and a two-day weekend. Each can be photo, video or both.

Collections

Every collection comes as photo, video, or both, with the same team on the day. Half day covers an elopement or a small ceremony and portraits; Full day runs from getting ready to the first hour of the reception; Two days adds a rehearsal dinner, a welcome evening or a next-morning session. Travel to Pittsburgh is built into the quote, not added later.

Prices depend on the date, the team and how far we travel, so we send a price list for Pittsburgh rather than publishing one number for every town. Ask for it below; it arrives within one business day.

Wedding detail

An April day in Pittsburgh runs from a 06:41 sunrise to a 19:58 sunset on the 15th1, and both times move quickly through spring, so we rebuild the plan around your actual date. A sample day:

  1. Sunrise1. For a first-light session we start at Point State Park, where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers meet to form the Ohio3.
  2. Morning Getting ready, details, and a first look if you want one.
  3. Midday Family portraits, then the wedding party on the Roberto Clemente Bridge, which spans the Allegheny downtown4.
  4. Afternoon The ceremony, photographed and filmed by the same crew.
  5. Evening Couple portraits on Mount Washington, the hill on the southern banks of the Monongahela and Ohio5, then the reception.
  6. Sunset1. The film's closing shots and the last portraits belong to this light.

April averages a 62.4°F high and a 40.7°F low with 3.32 inches of precipitation6 (1991-2020 normals at Pittsburgh International Airport), so we pack for a coat and an umbrella and agree a covered or indoor fallback for the ceremony in advance. In January the sun sets at 17:171 and the average high is 36.3°F6: a winter wedding gets its portraits earlier in the day, kept short and close to the venue.

For the film side, from feature to teaser to ceremony edit, see our Pittsburgh wedding videography page.

Where we shoot in Pittsburgh

These are the places we use as portrait and ceremony backdrops in Pittsburgh, each described from a public source.

  • Point State Park a state park downtown at the point where the Allegheny and Monongahela meet to form the Ohio, 36 acres in all3. Our choice for river-edge portraits.
  • Mount Washington the hill on the southern banks of the Monongahela and Ohio rivers5, and the overlook we use for frames with the city behind you.
  • Smithfield Street Bridge a lenticular truss bridge over the Monongahela, built 1881-1883 to a design by Gustav Lindenthal and a National Historic Landmark7.
  • Roberto Clemente Bridge also called the Sixth Street Bridge, it spans the Allegheny River downtown4.
  • Schenley Park a large municipal park between Oakland, Greenfield and Squirrel Hill, listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district8.
  • Frick Park at 644 acres, the largest municipal park in Pittsburgh9.
  • Mexican War Streets a Central Northside historic district of restored row houses, community gardens and tree-lined streets and alleys10.

Park rules differ by site and change over time, so your partner checks the current rule for the place you choose before your date.

How we match you with your photographer

Troth Weddings is a network of independent wedding photographers and videographers, built location by location. When you inquire about Pittsburgh, we introduce you to the partner photographer matched to it. We share their recent galleries and films and set up a call. You book directly with them; we stay in the loop until your gallery is delivered.

Partners join by invitation. Before we list anyone we review full weddings, not highlight reels, and how they handle contracts, backups and delivery.

How booking works

  1. Send the form with your date and location.
  2. We reply within one business day with the Pittsburgh price list and the partner's recent work.
  3. Call with the photographer; if it fits, a deposit holds the date.
  4. A short questionnaire about people, places and timing, two weeks before.
  5. The day.
  6. A sneak peek first, then the full gallery and the film on the dates set in your contract.

Questions couples ask

01How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Pittsburgh?

As soon as your date and place are fixed, since we can only match you with a partner who is free that day. The license won't hold you up: it is valid for 60 days2 and the county advises applying two to three weeks before the ceremony2, so book the photographer first and the license afterwards.

02Do you travel to Pittsburgh, and is travel included?

Pittsburgh is one of our listed locations, and travel to it is built into the quote rather than added later. A license from Allegheny County can be used in any other Pennsylvania county2, so a ceremony outside the city limits is fine on the paperwork side; tell us the place on the form and the price list is written for it.

03Can we book photo and video together in Pittsburgh?

Yes. Every collection comes as photo, video or both, shot by one team on the day, so you plan one schedule and one set of portrait stops. Choose Photo + Video on the form and the Pittsburgh price list covers both. Our Pittsburgh films page explains what the film includes.

04What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

Rain changes the plan, not the date. April averages 3.32 inches of precipitation across the month6, so we agree a covered or indoor fallback for the ceremony in advance and keep portraits short and flexible. Your partner also tells you which stops, such as the bridges, wait for a drier hour.

05Can we get the raw files?

The collection includes the edited gallery, so raw files are not part of it. If you want them, ask your partner on the call: whether they release unedited files, and on what terms, is set in their contract, and we'd rather you know that before you book than after.

Say when.

Give us a date, or only a month, and the Pittsburgh price list reaches you within one business day along with a partner's recent work. If the date is still open, say so on the form.
